Sam Heughan Books First Post-‘Outlander’ Role in Thriller ‘Embassy’
AGC Television is financing and handling worldwide distribution for Embassy, the upcoming drama series that has yet to secure a U.S. broadcaster. The show stars Anna Kendrick as Layla, an American diplomat thrust into a life-or-death crisis when mercenaries storm the U.S. embassy in London. Caught in the middle of escalating danger, Layla faces an impossible choice: protect the ambassador (played by J.K. Simmons) or follow his direct orders to escort a high-value asset safely out of harm’s way. According to the official logline, Layla must trust her instincts — and accept the reluctant help of her ex-fiancé, a British SAS soldier portrayed by Sam Heughan — during the tense hours leading up to a risky extraction.
The series was created by Rom Lotan, with John Strickland directing four of the six episodes. The remaining two instalments will be helmed by Miguel Alexandre Alvart. Executive producers include Lotan and Strickland alongside Ascendant Fox’s Hester Ruoff, Bart Ruspoli and Matt Mitchell; Turbine Studios’ Daniel Hetzer, Jakob Neuhausser, Justin Thomson and David Tanner; and AGC’s Stuart Ford, Lourdes Diaz and Miguel A. Palos Jr. The production aims to deliver a high-stakes political thriller grounded in character-driven drama and international tension.
Outside of Embassy, Sam Heughan continues to balance television and film work. In addition to his long-running role in Outlander, he has appeared in the Starz thriller The Couple Next Door and the Channel 4 drama Suspect. His film credits include Love Again, Bloodshot and The Spy Who Dumped Me. Heughan is represented by United Agents, UTA, Anonymous Content and Viewpoint, reflecting his growing presence across both television and cinema.
Production on Embassy is expected to generate strong interest among international broadcasters as anticipation builds for the series’ eventual release.
